The Hamsa is an ancient symbol that appeared all over the ancient Middle East, is made up of an open hand and typically has a large eye in the center that is typically colored a shade of blue. The Hamsa is symbolic of good luck and is supposed to banish the evil eye and negative spiritual energy. In Judaism, it is attributed to Moses’ sister Miriam and the blue eye is meant to represent the well that followed the Jews during their journey in the desert in her merit. The Hamsa appears in numerous pieces of Jewish jewelry, such as pendants that appear on bracelets and necklaces as well as on rings and earrings.

Hamsa necklace pendants come in both modern and traditional deigns and can be decorated with filigree designs, floral patterns or engraved with verses from the Torah or even engraved with names. In addition, they may also be set with diamonds or other gemstones as well as crystal and attached to a depiction of Jerusalem. Hamsa pendants are also usually made from precious metals such as 925 Sterling Silver and high quality gold such as 14 or 18 karat gold.

Hamsa earrings are frequently decorated with diamonds or crystals in the eye and finger and edged with sterling silver or gold. These pieces of jewish jewelry also feature filigree pattens and scrollwork and can appear in all types of earrings, from studs to hook earrings.

If you are looking for a unique piece of Jewish jewelry, consider an Hamsa ring. Hamsa rings are made of sterling silver or gold and a Hamsa sitting atop the band. Like Hamsa pendants, these rings can also be engraved with verses from the Torah and names as well as word of blessing, such as the Hebrew word “Mazal” which means “luck” in English, or “Hatzlacha” which is Hebrew for “Success”.

In addition to pieces that are shaped like Hamsas, the Hamsa can be engraved into other pieces of Jewish jewelry, such as in sterling silver and 14 karat gold dog-tag pendants. The Hamsa may also be included in a jewelry piece such as a gold brooch pin that may also be decorated with other Judaica scenes and motifs such as scenes of the Old City of Jerusalem. The Hamsas in these pieces may also be engraved the center with names, Stars of David or Hebrew words such as “Chai”, Hebrew for “life”.

It is also a symbol that can be found in Menorahs, Dreidels and many other items of Judaica that are used in the holidays such as the famous Hanukkah.

Most people noted that silver metal used for jewelry generally is 925 sterling, and know that 925 stand for 92.5% silver component alloyed with other metals such as copper and zinc to be more durable than pure silver. You may hear some jewelry shops sell “Pure Silver Jewelry”, 99.999% silver. So why most in jewelry field don’t use such 99.999% precious metal even there really are in the market.

Can pure silver shaped in the form of jewelry? Yes, it can. But you can imagine like 99.999% gold jewelry that was popular once (had been but not now!) It can make people who wear feel luxurious with pure precious metal, but it can be use only “just for show” in the party in short time because it is easy to be damaged, bend or deshaped. Especially in the case of silver jewelry, it will be really easy to be dark and yellowish when wear it for a day! So it is! It is “really just for show”, for you to keep it in your safe and just look their beautiful scene.

About silver component percentage, like I said in previous that it is just a standard. The real is notnecessary to be accurate at 92.5%, just have to be more than. But what we, silver jewelry manufacturer has to specially concern for is the other metal component that is the restriction. There is the standard to not let any “look like to be harm heavy metal” in the exported silver jewelry. The one that is most restricted is “Nickel”, others are such as mercury. Where these metals come from? Yeah! you know that silver jewelry in the market have to use other material to mix with for their beauty and, of course, reduce cost of silver. So if the other mixed materials like CZ, crystal (with glue) are with silver jewelry, we have to be caution for this! (For standard factory, more than check silver percentage with laser inspection, they have to trace other metals with radiation inspection as well.)

The last one we would like you to be informed is, as the manufacturer that keep made-to-order production, the price you request cannot be steady from time to time like other goods, especially in market silver price fluctuation like this! I think people who involve in this industry is well-noted already. You can see how fluctuated the silver price at the present on kitco.com. We have to order the pure silver grain once the ordered is confirmed from buyer, cannot stock in advance to risk ourselves. Like I want to imply you that the one claim themselves “silver jewelry manufacturer” but can give you stedy price like declare in their catalogue are just dropshipper that sell just “what they have in stock.”

In a typical marriage proposal, the man gives the woman an engagement ring set with a diamond. However, some people choose to not go this route and use other gemstones. As it happens, most members of the British Royal Family used different gemstones, the most recent being Prince William’s use of his mother’s sapphire engagement ring in his own marriage proposal. This had led to a surge in the popularity of the sapphire in engagement rings and engagement ring settings as well as other pieces of jewelry.

Sapphire is the next hardest gemstone on the Mohs scale after diamonds with a hardness of 9. It comes from a mineral called which also produces rubies. These gemstones usually are blue but they can also be found in other colors, including pink, orange, purple and green, which is the result of other elements such as iron, titanium or chromium being present in the gemstone. The blue stone is the most popular and by far the most valuable of sapphires, although deep colored sapphires of different colors are often equally as valuable.

Sapphires are particularly popular in earrings and pendants, particularly because the sapphire is known for giving is wearer a classy look. It also is frequently used in conjunction with diamonds and are used together in a wide range of combinations. Sapphires can be found in stud, drop and hoop earrings and usually cut as emerald, pear, marquise and princess-shaped stones. However it can also be found in other shapes in other pieces of jewelry, such as princess-cut sapphires in an eternity ring.
Two very popular designs that involve diamonds and sapphires is to alternate stones along the outside of a piece of jewelry or by having one surround the other. The first design is most popular on bracelets and earrings, while the second is popular on a wider range of jewelry including earrings, pendants and rings. In rings, the sapphire is most popular on rings that feature more than one large stone, such as a five stone or three stone rings. Rings and pendants that feature sapphires usually consist of a large oval-shaped sapphire in the center and several rows of diamonds around its circumference.

For those who are interested in the meaning and metaphysical properties of the sapphire, it is often considered to be a symbol of commitment and is usually a gift if one wants to show their faith to their significant other or spouse. For married couples, it is the stone of choice for the 45th wedding anniversary. It is also the birthstone of the months of September and April and is an appropriate gift for people born under the Aquarius, Virgo, Libra and Capricorn Zodiac symbols.

Equally as beautiful as gold and silver, platinum has mystified jewelers and jewelry buyers alike for centuries. Learn more about platinum and diamond jewelry.

Diamond and Platinum Rings

There’s really no mystery to platinum. It is, however, a truly overlooked “gem” in the world of precious metals. Equally as beautiful as gold and silver, platinum has mystified jewelers and jewelry buyers alike for centuries.

What is Platinum?
Platinum is a dense and lustrous silvery-white metal found in various places on the planet including South Africa and Russia. Platinum is a strong but durable metal – in fact much more durable than gold or silver.

Platinum is most often alloyed with other metals such as palladium, iridium and ruthenium, but nearly all fine jewelry is created using the purest platinum alloy: 95% platinum mixed with 5% iridium or palladium to strengthen the metal.

Technically Speaking
Perhaps all the mystery surrounds platinum’s rarity – it is one of the rarest elements in the Earth’s crust, even more rare than gold and silver. Platinum occurs naturally in the sands (also called alluvial sands) in various rivers on the planet. The earliest references to platinum were made in 1557 and research and experiments on and using platinum started in the late 1700’s.

Of course platinum has become a very popular choice in engagement ring settings, wedding bands for women, and other jewelry, but there are other, more technical uses for this precious metal. Platinum is often used to make electrodes and other supports in laboratories and it is also used to make items such as dental prostheses, magnets, medical tools and other items.

Precious Commodity
The price of platinum, like gold or other precious metals, has continued to rise in recent years but its price is considered to be more volatile than gold and twice as much making it a bit harder to predict. However, platinum is considered a good investment when purchased in jewelry such as diamond rings or other pieces.

Perfect Jewelry
Because platinum is so durable it is considered to be a very practical purchase in terms of fine jewelry like diamond engagement rings. Gold and silver are very soft metals and can scratch and chip easily, but platinum, while it may look scratched or aged, will never chip or scratch. Additionally platinum does not tarnish and it is considered one of the only hypo-allergenic metals known to man.

Unlike other metals, platinum will not corrode nor does the color fade or wear off which means rings or jewelry created from platinum do not need to be coated with rhodium to protect it. It is incredibly versatile and nearly any piece of jewelry can be crafted from or with platinum. All platinum jewelry should be marked with the “950 Plat” or “Plat” stamp to indicate their authenticity.

While platinum maybe rare, it is equally as beautiful and can be found in a variety of fine jewelry pieces. While it may be expensive it is clearly worth the investment.

Owning fine jewelry and precious stones is one thing. Knowing how to care for your jewelry is a whole other story. Jewelry care is an element of jewelry ownership that is often overlooked, but is one of the most important factors in ensuring your jewelry stays vibrant and intact. Here a few basics on jewelry care:

Diamond Jewelry
Owning precious jewelry requires vigilant care. Diamond jewelry such as engagement rings, bracelets, or earrings needs special care that other jewelry might not require. You should first take note of what kinds of materials are used in your jewelry – what kind of metals are used, what kinds of stones and how many – all of these factors determine how you will clean your items. There are a few trusted methods to clean diamond jewelry:

1.	Take your pieces to a jeweler to have them professionally cleaned and buffed. This might be a good idea if you have particularly delicate engagement ring settings with either very small stones or larger stones.
2.	At-home cleaning can easily be done with a solution found in most stores. Most jewelry cleaners come in a small jar with a plastic basket where you place your jewelry for a few seconds or minutes. After your jewelry has soaked take it out of the basket and brush it with the small brush that accompanies the basket. Be careful not to scrub too hard – a gentle brushing is all that is required. When you are done, simply run the jewelry under warm water and dry with a towel.

Gemstone Jewelry
Often times people will forsake for their gemstone jewelry for other jewelry because they find gemstone care too complicated or they just don’t think these precious items deserve the same care. Caring for gemstone jewelry is not only crucial for beautiful and long-lived pieces, but is actually very easy. Here are few steps not too miss:

1.	Your jeweler is always a safe bet if you are unsure about your piece. Again, like diamond jewelry, anything with delicate or fine components such as small gemstones would be best in the hands of a professional.
2.	Store bought cleaners are a second best option. There are a number of cleaning solutions specifically for gemstones. Keep in mind that not all gemstones are the same. Pearl care requires different solutions and cleaning methods than other gemstones such as rubies or sapphires. Be sure to carefully follow the directions on any cleaner you purchases and remember to be gentle.

Whatever your jewelry is, be sure to care for your precious pieces. Give them a good cleaning every few months and your old jewelry will be transformed into that brand new piece you purchased years ago!

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, show your love with a nice heart-shaped pendant, a diamond engagement ring or diamond stud earrings.

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, eager love birds are thinking about how best to “show the love” to their one true love. But let’s face it – flowers and candy are so passé. Why be so impersonal? After all Valentine’s Day is about romance, love and connecting with that special person in your life.

I personally love giving (and of course getting) jewelry as a gift. But with so many options and so much to choose from, where do you begin? Let’s dive right into gift giving 101 and explore the many fabulous options we have on this Valentine’s Day.

Simple & Sentimental
Gift giving, especially on Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be over the top. Often times it is gifts that come from the heart that mean the most. I am quite partial to simple pieces such as a gold bracelet, pretty earrings or lovely pearl jewelry. And these gifts are really affordable. You don’t have to break the bank to find something beautiful and meaningful.

Diamond Stud Earrings
These are probably one of the sexier and romantic pieces of jewelry you can give for Valentine’s Day. The great thing about diamond stud earrings is that they are available in such variety. There are many different choices of diamonds and styles you can pick from and, best of all, diamond studs are actually quite affordable. Plus they are a guaranteed pleaser!

The Heart of All Things
What Valentine’s Day would be complete without a beautiful heart-shaped piece of jewelry? This is truly one of those all-time classic pieces that everyone woman is sure to love. I personally love the delicate heart-shaped diamond pendants because they come in so many different styles and designs. I have seen some with just a simple solitaire diamond and I’ve seen others with multiple diamonds in gorgeous designs and metals. It’s pretty much a no fail gift.

The Ultimate Gift
Valentine’s Day is quite possibly the most romantic time to ask the person you love to marry you. Of course diamond engagement rings are the ultimate gift for just such an occasion. But tread lightly on this – it is best to know your intended’s wants and needs for such a gift before any hasty purchases are made. The great thing is there are a lot of rings to choose from and a lot to learn. Depending on the future bride’s style, there are dozens of styles of engagement rings, from pave to vintage, side stone to classic solitaire and everything in between.

In short, Valentine’s Day is a fabulous opportunity to use your creativity to really show that special person in your life how you feel. With so much to choose from, you can’t possibly go wrong!

Here’s a look at some of the most popular customized jewelry designs on the market today:

1) The Name Pendant:

The Name Pendant has always been a popular necklace design. You may be surprised, but it wasn’t Carrie from “Sex and the City” who started the name necklace craze. The name necklace dates back centuries, having evolved from the rice name necklaces that are traditional Eastern adornments. Today, you can choose to have your name written on rice, fashioned from 14k gold, or even encrusted in diamonds.

2) The Dog Tag Bracelet:

The dog tag bracelet is frequently personalized with a special engraving, a gemstone or anniversary stone, or a diamond. While it is traditionally engraved with one’s personal information such as name, date of birth, id number, etc, today it can be engraved with any number of things including romantic quotes, unique designs or simple lucky numbers.

3) Birthstone Jewelry:

All birthstone jewelry is in some way personalized for the recipient. By setting the ring, bracelet, necklace, earrings or pendant with one’s specific birthstone, the jewelry is customized to commemorate the birth of the wearer. Any jewelry item can be set with a unique birthstone, no matter what!

4) The Charm Bracelet:

The charm bracelet is probably the most classic and easily customizable jewelry item. Mix and match your charms, choose charms that resemble places you want to memorialize, occasions you want to celebrate and moments you never want to forget. Locket charms might be considered the most personal, being easy to engrave and made to hold a special photograph, lock of hair or handwritten note.

Heirloom wedding rings that have been in the family from generations always seem to carry more meaning than new, store bought rings. Jewelry is meant to tell a story, and when your wedding ring tells the story of your parents, grandparents and maybe even great grandparents as well, it will truly warm your heart. But what do you do if your grandmother’s heirloom wedding ring is in poor condition, or, worse, is outdated in style?

Many brides to be face the daunting task of dealing with family politics regarding heirloom jewelry. However, it may be easier than you think to turn an old or outdated heirloom piece into a new beautiful creation.

Gold Heirloom Wedding Rings

If the heirloom wedding ring that you have in hand is made from gold, you’re in luck. Gold is extremely malleable and relatively easy to melt down for resizing, reshaping and complete remodeling.

While you may decided to keep your grandmother’s ring the way it is, if you do have reservations about the style or condition of your ring, consider taking it to your local jewelers for a consultation. Your local jeweler (not your local jewelry retailer) should be able to tell you the quality of gold in the gold ring, its general condition and your options regarding melting it down and starting anew. Women who are particular about having a wedding ring that fits snugly beneath their engagement ring might find alterations such as resizings or slight redesigns particularly rewarding.

Diamond Heirloom Wedding Rings

Many heirloom wedding rings, especially Victorian, Edwardian Wedding and Art Deco wedding rings incorporate diamonds. Over the years, diamonds can crack, or chip. Moreover, with today’s diamond cutting technology, it’s much easier to find high quality diamond with high light reflection and superb brilliance.

If you find that the diamonds in your grandmother’s heirloom diamond wedding ring aren’t up to par, consider having them removed and set as diamond studs, or in a pretty diamond pendant, and replace them with high quality stones.

You may, conversely, decide to keep them, but change the setting. This can be done as well. A skilled jeweler can change a five stone diamond ring into a three stone diamond ring and can remove a prong setting and replace it with a bezel setting. Keep in mind, however, that this is difficult and time consuming work, and may be quite expensive.

Summary

Heirloom rings can be extremely meaningful and significant to a newly wed couple, but its important that they fit the overall needs of the wearer(s). The wedding ring is meant to be worn forever. If you are in doubt about the quality or design of your ring, take it to your jewelers for a consultation. You might be able to make small adjustments that make it even more special.

To simplify the process of dressing up for a big event, it is a good idea to own a pearl necklace or pendant as well as a pair of diamond earrings and a diamond bracelet to match. This helps you bypass that part of your routine where you agonize over which pieces to wear with your outfit.

You can coordinate these pieces by selecting jewelry that is designed in a similar fashion or jewelry that is made from the same type of metal. You can choose from white or yellow gold, as well as silver and platinum. Once your metal is picked out you can purchase the pendant, bracelet and earrings in that metal.

One good design to invest in is the coordinating solitaire pendant jewelry. This design is versatile and can match with casual or fancy dress ware.

So you have the metal picked out and a design in mind, so now you need to decide where to purchase the jewelry that you want. There are a lot of options out there, both in person and online. When choosing the jeweler to do business with, it is important to pick a place that offers a variety of types of jewelry. This will ensure that you get the widest range of jewelry to pick from. A wider choice range means that you are more likely to get the exact pieces you have in mind. Since you are looking for coordinating pieces, it is wise to buy the necklace or pendant, bracelet and earrings at the same place. Online shopping may be your best bet.

If the solitaire design isn’t for you, a very popular trend right now is the journey design. The journey design is when the stones are placed according to their size, in a graduated pattern. The largest stone is placed at the top and the others follow, getting smaller in size as they go to the bottom. The journey design is especially popular when it represents big moments in your life’s journey.

Graduations, weddings, birthdays and other events can be represented on a journey design, which makes these pieces hold special meaning.

While the journey design has only been popular for the last few years, because of how quickly it has caught on, the design is available from most jewelers in a variety of formats. The journey design is now featured in earrings, necklace pendants and even bracelets. When you purchase jewelry with an eye toward pieces that complement one another, you will end up with a jewelry box that is easy to choose from. A coordinating set of pieces can take an ordinary outfit and make it extraordinary.
